Kindergarten Teacher Job Description

Basic Function: The classroom teacher employs dynamic teaching techniques and strategies that actively engage students and effectively achieve curriculum goals, ultimately leading to measurable improvements in student learning outcomes. Integrating biblical principles and utilizing a Christian philosophy of education are also essential aspects of this role.  Teachers provide classroom instruction to small classes two days per week (Tues, Thurs) and create lesson plans to guide parents on the three home days in the University School Model. Because our team of teachers help parents accomplish our mission to disciple our students through a rigorous Christian education, communication with parents is critical to the position.

The classroom teacher is also expected to use effective classroom management strategies that encourage positive behavior and foster a productive learning atmosphere for all students.

Reports To: Head of School

​

We seek the following in qualified candidates:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.

  • State certification in teaching is preferred.

  • Prior teaching experience is preferred; university model® school teaching experience considered a plus.

  • Strong content knowledge in early childhood education and/or specific content such as literacy or math.

  • Have received Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior and believe that the Bible is God’s Word and looks to it as the final authority and standard for faith and daily living.

  • An active member of a Spirit-filled church, growing in his/her Christian relationship with God, and actively practicing and exhibiting Christian principles of the faith.

  • In whole-hearted agreement with MCA’s Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Statements on Faith, Moral Integrity, and Conduct.

  • Ability and desire to communicate how God works in our daily lives and His love for students.

  • A heart to provide exceptional service to all members of the MCA community.

Teacher Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Demonstrates a mastery of the subject material assigned.

  • Uses dynamic teaching techniques and strategies to engage students, achieve curriculum goals, and measurably improve student learning outcomes. 

  • Prepares and submits lesson plans and any other classroom materials and documentation as required.

  • Complies with all school policies and procedures and attends all required meetings.

  • Employs a variety of instructional aides, methods, and materials that will provide for creative teaching and appeal to a variety of learning styles.

  • Prepares weekly assignments sheets for the satellite classroom time supervised by parents at home.

  • Assesses the learning of students on a regular basis and supplies proper feedback to administration and parents.

  • Uses effective classroom management techniques that encourage positive behavior and foster a productive learning atmosphere for all students. 

  • Helps ensure proper discipline on the school premises and at school events.

  • Follows established policies and procedures for interacting with students, parents, administration, and staff.

  • Follow the principles of Matthew 18 in dealing with conflict with students, parents, staff, and administration without engaging in gossip or divisive coalition building of any kind.

  • Demonstrates support for the role of parents as educational partners and supports them in that task.

  • Cooperates with administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.

  • Maintains regular and accurate attendance and grade records to meet the demands for comprehensive knowledge of each student’s progress.

  • Keeps students, parents, and the principal adequately informed of deficiencies and gives sufficient notice of failure.

  • Maintains a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom.

  • Performs adjunct perfunctory duties as required by the administration and as defined in the teacher contract.
